Learn About Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport Terminal:

Atlanta Airport has a very organized, straight-line layout. Seven parallel concourses connect two main terminals. After you go through security, the entire complex is connected. You can move between gates easily using the underground train or the pedestrian walkway.

The Two Main Terminals:

  • Domestic Terminal: Concourses T, A, B, C, and D.
  • International Terminal: Concourses E and  F

The Seven Concourses:

  • Concourse T
  • Concourse A
  • Concourse B
  • Concourse C
  • Concourse D
  • Concourse E
  • Concourse F

A Quick Look at ATL Airport Baggage Claim:

The baggage pickup is designed to be quick, straightforward, and easy to find. Here are two main zones:

  • Concourse E
  • Concourse F

The Carousels: The airport uses seven carousels to handle bags for passengers whose final destination is Atlanta (arriving in E and F), as well as connecting passengers arriving in Concourse F.

Where to Go Next (Concourse F): When you pick up your bags at Concourse F, follow the signs for your specific destination.

  • Ending your trip in Atlanta? Turn right toward the Arrivals Hall.
  • Connecting to another U.S. flight? Turn left to head to the baggage recheck area.

How the Departure Process Works at Atlanta Airport?

Atlanta’s airport (ATL) is the busiest in the world, but its straight-line design makes it easy to navigate. According to the airport’s website, you start at one of two main terminal buildings. From there, an underground train connects you straight to all the departure gates.

Choosing Your Terminal:

ATL Airport has two separate entry points far apart, choose the one you need ahead of time, because traveling between them takes 30 minutes by shuttle or car.

Check-In and Baggage Drop:

On normal days, you should arrive at the airport two to three hours before your flight’s scheduled departure time. However, during busy travel seasons, things change. The airport will post special alerts advising everyone to arrive earlier because security lines can be unpredictable and very long.

If you have checked in online and have only carry-ons you may go for the security checks directly.  In case you have checked bags or require physical boarding documentation:

  • Follow signs to your airline’s specific row or counter.
  • Automated kiosks are standard for printing bag tags and boarding passes by scanning an ID, passport, or booking reference.
  • Hand your tagged luggage to your airline’s dedicated “Bag Drop” agents.

Security Screening:

ATL has multiple security checkpoints, but they all connect to the same main gate area. This means you can use any checkpoint in your terminal to get to your gate.

Here are the regular hours and screening types for each.
